How Auger Helped Make Zaldy’s Show Happen

Zaldy showed his collection on Sunday night at New York’s famed Hotel Chelsea (his former abode) and like most designers he needed some support to make the show happen. Enter Dave and Leigh Anne Clark, who have co-founded Auger, and sponsored his show. Leigh Anne, who was recently named to the foundation board at FIT, tells The Daily how their new incubator will benefit fashion designers and why she and Dave (the former consumer CEO of Amazon) wanted to get involved. 

Tell us a little about your plans for the incubator and how it came about!
I have a deep love of the art and history of fashion. It was an outlet for me in so many ways as a child growing up in a small town. In founding Auger we saw an opportunity to really help enable artists and companies get their work to customer faster with less cost and waste. As we looked at ways to be a part of the community it was clear the costs of hosting a show had become prohibitive for many designers, even great established artists like Zaldy. So here we are working to enable artists.

This year you sponsored Zaldy’s show at the Chelsea Hotel. Why was Zaldy a great match to kick this off?  
We had the opportunity to meet Zaldy at an Auger event earlier in the year and he’s a great artist whose work is already so directly tied to the tech world it just seemed like a natural fit. When we heard he could use the support we said let’s do it!

There’s a lot of designers who I’m sure will want to become part of the incubator.  
We are taking this out for a spin to see how it goes over with the community, but assuming everything goes the way we expect I imagine, we will be back at this again in a few months.

Will this be for American designers or worldwide?
Art like supply chains are global affairs so we are open to all.
