Today, The RealReal debuted findings from its 2026 Resale Report, which charts the year’s macro shifts in the resale industry using data from the platform’s 44 million members, more than half of whom of whom are Gen Z and Millenials.

According to The RealReal, shoppers these days are “scrolling past social media’s glut of consumption-maxxing content and shopping more intentionally, spending time seeking out individual pieces that appeal to their unique sense of style instead.”

Report Highlights

Most-Searched Brands:

Chanel topped the list thanks in no small part to the buzz surrounding Matthieu Blazy’s appointment and subsequent blockbuster collections. In fact, searches for Blazy’s name alone were up a whopping 10,967% from last year, with designers Sarah Burton of Givenchy and Jonathan Anderson of Dior a distant second and third with search volume increases of 243% and 158% respectively. Saint Laurent and Hermès also retunred to the brand top ten for the first time since 2023.

How We Shop Now:

According to the report, decade-specific searches are surging in popularity, with Gen Z’s Y2K obsession driving searches for ’90s and ’00s fashion and accessories up 65% and 93%, respectively.

Early 2000s and even 2010s nostalgia are also driving searches for Acne Studios jeans, Rodarte dresses, and trippy Prada prints. Saved searches are also way ip for for Phoebe Philo Celine (+650%), Nicolas Ghesquière Balenciaga (+400%), Marc Jacobs Louis Vuitton (+375%), Prada 2008 (+75%), and Acne Studios (+33%).

Customers are also increasingly shopping for specific runway looks from specific past collections.

The RealReal’s report also highlights specific one-off search terms that don’t necessarily fit into any discernable trend, but just go to show that more and more, people are turning to the resale market for specific items rather than just browsing out of a general interest in secondhand fashion (though there’s certainly plenty of that going on as well).

Ones to Watch:

Interest in some emerging brands is also on the rise, particularly Rùadh, Heirlome, and Zankov. Meanwhile, formerly emerging brands like Eckhaus Latta and Off-White appear to be losing steam with consumers.

Status Update:

The RealReal was keen to point out that while saved searches always indicate increased interest in a brand or product, an increase in supply doesn’t necessarily mean something is falling out of favor. It can actually mean a brand is getting more buzz and consignors are capitalizing on that by putting more pieces into the secondary market.

With that in mind, the report breaks out the top five brands with the greatest rate of saved search increases and the brands with the greatest relative increases in supply availability on the platform.

Consumers are also still keen to “invest” in designer bags. According to the report, iconic bags are no less in demand now than they were 10 years ago. Prices from 2016 to now: Fendi Baguette +10x, YSL Mombasa +8x, Gucci Jackie +3x, Louis Vuitton Monogram Speedy +2x, Dior Lady +1.4x, Louis Vuitton Monogram Neverfull +1.3x.

Meanwhile, increases in search volume for specific newer bags, including the Ferragamo Hug and Chanel Cerf, would seem to indicate (at least according to The RealReal) that these are the bags most likely to retain the majority of their value if bought new today and resold on The RealReal down the road.

There are also a handful of specific “past-season” items that continue to perform on the platform including Dries Van Noten sneakers, Prada Bonnie bags, and Balenciaga Rodeo bags.
