Yara Shahidi’s Bottega Veneta Leather Look Is All About Volume

Yara Shahidi attended the 2026 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday, where she joined her family to support her cousin Nas as he received the BMI Icon Award.

The actress wore a Bottega Veneta Pre-Fall 2023 leather shirt dress, with the balloon skirt providing the defining feature. It instantly reminded me of Ayo Edebiri’s Louis Vuitton leather dress from the 2024 Emmys, although Ayo’s dress had considerably more structure through the hips and skirt.

Roomy leather will always be preferable to skin-tight leather for me, but my first thought was that this dress feels too big on Yara. I see it mostly in the sleeves, where the extra length and volume make the upper half feel heavier than it does in the lookbook.

Perhaps simply rolling the sleeves would have made the difference. On the model we see how the styling allows the balloon shape of the skirt to become the focus. On Yara, the full-length sleeves compete with that volume instead.
