Ester Expósito Is Just Like Her ‘Drawn Together’ Character—Except When It Comes to Love

Yeah, a lot. The makeup thing. I used to use so much more makeup than now. Each time I enjoy using less and to go out to the streets with nothing—just SPF, of course. And my skin is very sensitive. In general, I learned that makeup is optional and that sometimes I feel even more me and better without it.

What is something that you know now that you wish you knew back in your Elite days?

That it’s okay to not be liked and loved by everyone, and that is completely natural. It’s impossible, you know, that everybody loves you, agrees with you, or likes you. I think I always knew that, of course. But when you become so known, so young, it shocks you. You know, with social media.

How did you learn to tune out the noise?

You get used to it, and when you understand that it’s not as personal as it seems—we’re talking about haters and that stuff—it has much more to do with them than with you. All the fury and things they’re pouring out there on social media.

You recently told GQ that you are excited to take on the US market and English-language space, and I was wondering why that is?

I have lots of things left to do in Spain. I love living there. I always want to live there and work there, but I’m a person that gets bored or used to things very easily and quickly, so I always need a stimulus. Like, new inputs and new things and surprises and new challenges. Of course I can still have them in Spain, but one big new challenge would be, of course, to work in English.

I’ve already done it. This year I did my first American movie, Baton, with Danny Ramirez, a friend of mine. I think one of the big new challenges I could face is opening myself in a new industry and working in English or in a different culture and everything.
